Job Specifics
Duties Description • Manage construction activities to ensure the quality of construction projects in accordance with contract provisions, plans, and specifications at minimal possible cost in adherence to pre-determined schedules by comparing work to engineering standards and contract specs
• Ensure adherence to Federal, State, and Local laws, rules, and regulations
• Ensure the safety of contractor’s employees, inspection staff, and the traveling public
• Coordinate activities of contractors, sub-contractors, utilities, local governments and other affected parties to assure contract progress and scheduled completion
• Authorize and prepare contract payments on bi-weekly or monthly basis and, upon completion of work, authorize and prepare final payment to contractor
• Supervise state and consultant staff and conduct physical inspections and tests of construction methods and materials identifying deficiencies and determining corrective actions.
• Responsibilities also may include participating within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.
Minimum Qualifications In order to be considered for this position, candidates must have served one year as a permanent Construction Specialist 1 Transportation, SG-19, or Assistant Engineer (Civil/Transportation), SG-20. The Regional Construction Engineer will assign staff as project Engineers-in-Charge (EICs) based on personal skills, experience, training and development, and the type, difficulty, and location of the project.
